Press Release

Washington, D.C. (Mar. 18, 2020)—Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, issued the following statement after the Census Bureau announced it would suspend field operations until April 1, 2020, due to the novel coronavirus pandemic:

“Today, the Census Bureau announced that field operations will be suspended for two weeks, but every American should know that this does not affect your ability to self-respond.  The 2020 Census has begun, and you can complete your census form safely and easily—online, on the phone, or by mail.  By responding now, you will ensure that the Census Bureau does not need to send a census worker to your door.  The Oversight Committee is closely monitoring the suspension of field operations and other developments to ensure that the Census Bureau takes all necessary steps to keep people safe while conducting a full, fair, and accurate census.”
