Chairwoman Maloney to Hold Roundtable Marking “Moms’ Equal Pay Day”

Jun 1, 2021
Press Release
Maloney to be Joined by New York State Senator Jessica Ramos, Experts, and More

Washington, D.C. (June 1, 2021)— On Friday, June 4, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. ET, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, will host a roundtable to recognize Moms’ Equal Pay Day and examine the impact of the gender wage gap on working mothers—including how the gender wage gap has forced many mothers out of the workforce during the pandemic.

The roundtable will examine how the gender wage gap undermines women’s economic security and most drastically impacts women of color.  Women bear the disproportionate burden of caregiving in this country, and the uncompensated caregiving labor of women supports the rest of the economy.

The roundtable will also address ways Congress can work with the Biden Administration to continue to build a family-friendly economy that helps women succeed in the workplace while providing for their families.  This includes the American Families Plan’s investments in childcare and paid leave as well as tax credits for children and childcare.

The event will convene at Hunter College in New York, NY, and will also be available to livestream on YouTubePrior to the roundtable, at 9:30 a.m. ET, Chairwoman Maloney and Senator Ramos will hold a media availability to answer questions from reporters attending the event.
