Washington, D.C. (Feb. 22, 2019)—Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, issued a statement in response to the release of the Trump Administration’s draft final rule to dismantle the Title X program—the nation’s only federal grant program dedicated solely to family planning services:
“I am deeply disappointed that the Trump Administration has plowed ahead with its Title X gag rule—particularly in light of the concerns my colleagues and I raised just last week about the lack of integrity in the rulemaking process. The Administration is ignoring the significant health and economic impacts its actions will have on millions of Americans who rely on the Title X program. This is just the latest step in the Trump Administration’s ideologically-driven, misguided crusade to prevent Americans from accessing the full range of reproductive health care services.”
Last week, Chairman Cummings and Senate Democrats sent a letter to Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney and Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Administrator Neomi Rao citing serious concerns about the Title X rule and the unconventional process by which it had been reviewed.
