Issa Announces Hearing on Excessive Spending at IRS Conferences
WASHINGTON – The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will hold a hearing next Thursday on an upcoming report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) on wasteful Internal Revenue Service (IRS) conference spending.
“The IRS is an agency in crisis,” said Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif. “The American people expect that their tax-dollars will be used responsibly and not for financing lavish hotel suites and entertainment for government employees. The Oversight Committee will examine these egregious abuses of the public trust and an IRS culture that shuns accountability.”
The hearing, entitled Collected and Wasted: The IRS Spending Culture and Conference Abuses, will take place Thursday, June 6th at 9:30 a.m. in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building.
Inspector General J. Russell George is among the witnesses expected to testify.
