Comer Announces Hearing on the 2023 GAO High-Risk List

WASHINGTON—House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) will hold a hearing titled “The Government Accountability Office’s 2023 High-Risk List.” This full committee hearing will examine the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) 2023 High-Risk List. GAO issues a report at the start of each Congress to identify which programs are vulnerable to waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement and includes recommendations for agency and Congressional action. Members will identify areas in critical need of oversight, highlight vulnerable federal programs, and consider government-wide improvements to assist agencies in strategic planning.

“This hearing is exactly what this Committee was designed to do: identify areas in the federal government that are vulnerable to fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement. Taxpayers expect their government to work efficiently and effectively, but far too often the unchecked federal bureaucracy has led to inefficient and mismanaged programs. I am glad to hold this hearing to shine a light on federal programs that are especially susceptible to such risks, as well as identify solutions to ensure the government is working for all Americans. I look forward to hearing from our witness about ways Congress can enhance its oversight and improve the areas identified on the 2023 High-Risk List,” said Chairman Comer.
