Comer: NARA’s Inconsistent Treatment of Classified Docs Reveals Political Double Standard

On Hannity, Comer warns the Biden Admin worked hand-in-hand with NARA to conceal classified docs story from the American people

WASHINGTON—Following a transcribed interview with the National Archives and Records Administration’s (NARA) general counsel, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) joined ‘Hannity’ on Fox News to discuss how the Biden Administration deliberately sought to keep Americans in the dark about President Biden’s handling of classified documents. Chairman Comer also warned that NARA’s inconsistent treatment of classified documents points to a political double standard.

The Biden Administration worked hand-in-hand with the National Archives to conceal this story from the American people.

“Our whole fear about the documents in Joe Biden’s possession was that some of his family members who have been involved in influence peddling with our adversaries were using those classified documents inappropriately.

“If they had any access to the documents and if they use the documents, that’s illegal. Certainly, if they were trying to peddle those documents for money, that’s criminal. It also jeopardizes our national security. That’s why we need to get answers to this right now.”

The National Archives’ inconsistent treatment of classified documents points to a political double standard.

“Right before the National Archives came in, they handed us a letter from the Department of Justice informing them — and us — that the general counsel for the National Archives wasn’t allowed to say anything about the Biden documents.

“But we went ahead, and we had about a three plus hour transcribed interview with the general counsel and what we learned was there is a double standard here with how President Trump was treated vs. Joe Biden.

“I’ll give you an example, Sean. If you go on the National Archives website, there’s pages and pages of press releases and information about the FBI’s raid into Mar-a-Lago and Donald Trump’s possession of classified documents, but there’s nothing on the website about Joe Biden.”

Information about Biden’s classified documents was concealed from Americans before an election.

“Remember Sean, we wouldn’t even know about the fact that Joe Biden had classified documents in his possession were it not for a leak to CBS news. We would never have heard it from this White House. They would have covered it up forever like all the other cover-ups they’re doing with every major part of our investigation into the Biden family influence peddling.”

The American people deserve to know why this story was suppressed. The Oversight Committee will get answers.

“The American people are seeing that this White House at the very least is not being transparent. Another fact that proves the White House is trying to obstruct our investigation and treating former President Trump differently than they’re treating themselves, is that we’ve requested the same type of information on Joe Biden that my predecessor Democrat Chairwoman Maloney requested on Donald Trump. The National Archives gave them every piece of information that they requested on Donald Trump, but they never gave me any information.

“Once again, the reasoning was that the general counsel answered all our questions, but he wasn’t allowed to turn it over to us. The only people that could prohibit him from answering our request was either the Department of Justice, or the White House.”
