Grothman Announces Hearing to Examine the Office of Refugee Resettlement’s Unaccompanied Alien Children Program

WASHINGTON—Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs Chairman Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.) today announced an upcoming hearing titled “Oversight of the Office of Refugee Resettlement’s Unaccompanied Alien Children Program.” This hearing will examine how the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of Refugee Resettlement’s (ORR) actions contributed to unaccompanied alien children (UAC) being placed into unsafe situations with poorly vetted sponsors and, all too frequently, exploited for illegal child labor practices.

“Smugglers are exploiting the Biden Administration’s policies by profiting from the trafficking of migrant children into the United States. We would undoubtedly be greatly concerned if this many American children were placed in such dangerous situations. We should exercise the same degree of concern for migrant children coming across the border, particularly with the vast presence of criminal Cartels in their lives,” said Subcommittee Chairman Grothman.

“The Office of Refugee Resettlement’s negligence has contributed to migrant children being lost, released to sponsors not thoroughly vetted, exploited for illegal child labor in hazardous conditions, and in danger of being trafficked. The Biden Administration has turned a blind eye to the dangers facing migrant children and must be held accountable. I look forward to hearing testimony from the director of the ORR and bringing transparency and accountability to this pressing issue.”
