Hice: Time and Money Are Resources Democrats Are Happy to Waste

WASHINGTON — Today, Subcommittee on Government Operations Ranking Member Jody Hice (R-Ga.) delivered remarks at the House Committee on Oversight and Reform’s hearing on “The Impact of the American Rescue Plan’s State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds.” In his opening statement, Hice emphasized how Democrats’ unchecked spending, particularly through the American Rescue Plan, has resulted in skyrocketing energy prices, unaffordable rents, and rising grocery bills. Hice slammed Democrats for continuing to peddle false claims related to a booming economy and highlighted the record high inflation Americans are experiencing because of a toxic brew of Democratic policies. He concluded by stating the Oversight Committee should be focused on conducting meaningful oversight and addressing issues that are impacting Americans’ everyday lives.

Chairwoman Maloney, thank you for yielding me time.

Democrats are holding this hearing today to take a victory lap – trying desperately to claim their spasm of spending in the American Rescue Plan has created a booming economy.

But nobody is buying that argument, probably because they can’t afford to – all their money is soaked up by rising energy prices, mounting rents, and soaring grocery bills.

The American Rescue Plan spewed money on states and localities under the guise of pandemic relief – even when economists from across the political spectrum argued the money was not needed.

And while I am sure those states and localities were happy to get it, their reckless spending was like lighter fluid on a bonfire of inflation.

We haven’t seen rates like these since the dreary days of the Carter Administration.

Rising rates are the obvious result of a toxic brew of bad Democratic policies, trillions in spending for pet projects and liberal wish-lists miles long.

The only reason unemployment numbers might be falling is Democrat policies like paying people not to work and enforcing vaccine mandates that kept workers off the job but had no impact on preventing the spread of COVID are finally ending.

There are so many other things this Committee should be spending its time on. But time is a resource, like money, that Democrats are more than happy to waste.

I yield back.
