Issa Statement on White House-Romanoff Job Offers

WASHINGTON D.C. – House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) released the following statement regarding Colorado Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff’s confirmation that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina discussed making Romanoff the Deputy Assistant Administrator for Latin America and Caribbean, USAID, Director, Office of Democracy and Governance, USAID, Director, U.S. Trade and Development Agency at the USTDA should Romanoff withdrawal from the Democratic Primary challenging appointed-Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO):

“Just how deep does the Obama White House’s effort to invoke Chicago-style politics for the purpose of manipulating elections really go? Clearly, Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff aren’t isolated incidents and are indicative of a culture that embraces the politics-as-usual mentality that the American people are sick and tired of. Whatever the Obama brand use to stand for has been irrevocably shattered by the activities going on inside Barack Obama’s White House.

“The fact of the matter is this White House has lost all credibility and the American people can no longer rely on the word of the White House when it tried to deflect and deny allegations of questionable and potentially illegal conduct. These incidents underscore the need for some independent agent, whether it is a special prosecutor or the FBI, to launch an investigation and determine once and for all the extent of the White House’s efforts to manipulate elections and if those actions resulted in the violations of any laws.”

Earlier today, Rep. Issa sent a letter to White House Counsel Robert Bauer calling on him to produce “all records and documents created by or produced to the Office of the White House Counsel in the course of the investigation of the Sestak matter.”
