PURPOSE:
- To examine the implementation of the Inspector General Empowerment Act of 2016 and recent efforts to introduce transparency to the work of Inspectors General (IG).
- To examine ongoing management challenges identified by IGs in their respective agencies.
BACKGROUND:

On December 16, 2016, President Obama signed into law the Inspector General Empowerment Act, which gives IGs improved access to agency documents and creates structural reforms.

As of November 2017, 13 IG positions remain vacant or are awaiting Senate confirmation.
- On October 2, 2017, the IG community launched oversight.gov as a central location for reports, audits, and other IG work products to increase transparency.
