Comer: Biden’s Gaza Port Fast-Tracks Aid to Hamas
WASHINGTON—House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) issued the following statement on reports President Biden will order the U.S. military to construct a port in Gaza:
“President Biden’s plan to use Americans’ hard-earned money to build a port in Gaza will only fast-track U.S. taxpayer-funded aid into the hands of terrorists such as Hamas and put U.S. servicemembers’ lives at risk. Just this morning, I met with the USAID Inspector General who cautioned any aid going to Gaza or the West Bank has a high-risk for potential diversion and misuse of U.S. funded assistance. The House Oversight Committee has been sounding the alarm about U.S. aid to Gaza falling into the hands of terror groups, but it is falling on deaf ears with President Biden and his administration. The fact that this announcement will come during tonight’s State of the Union address says it all: President Biden cares more about appeasing the radical left then helping our ally Israel and protecting U.S. taxpayer dollars.”
A March 2021 report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office confirmed that U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) was not fully able to ensure that programming going to the West Bank and Gaza was not inadvertently reaching foreign terrorist organizations and affiliated individuals. In October 2023, the House Oversight Committee called on USAID Administrator Samantha Power raising concerns over the Biden Administration’s plans to send hundreds of millions of dollars of U.S. taxpayer-funded humanitarian aid to Gaza and the West Bank. The lawmakers called on Administrator Power to provide documents and information to ensure U.S. taxpayer dollars are not financing terrorist organizations or other activities contrary to U.S. interests.
