Comer: Biden’s Labor Secretary Nomination Alarming for Taxpayers
Julie Su oversaw California’s unemployment insurance program where at least $32 billion was lost to fraud
WASHINGTON—House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) issued the following statement on President Biden’s nomination of Julie Su as the next Department of Labor Secretary:
“It’s alarming that President Biden is nominating Julie Su as the next Department of Labor Secretary. She has a history of allowing rampant unemployment insurance fraud and now is being handed the keys to the entire UI program. Julie Su oversaw California’s unemployment insurance program during the pandemic where at least $32 billion was lost to fraud. In fact, murderers, people on death row, deceased individuals, and organized crime members in China and Russia fraudulently amassed extraordinary amounts of money on her watch. This nomination is alarming for American taxpayers and those who are concerned about government waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement. The Senate must oppose Su’s nomination.”
