Comer Issues Additional Subpoenas to Key Biden Family Business Associates and Hunter Biden’s Art Dealer

WASHINGTON—Today, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) issued additional subpoenas to Hunter Biden’s business associates, Eric Schwerin and Mervyn Yan, his gallerist, George Bergès, and art patron, Elizabeth Naftali, to appear for depositions. In addition, Chairman Comer requested a transcribed interview with the Americore Holdings, LLC trustee regarding “loans” the Bidens received.

“The House Oversight Committee is leaving no stone unturned as we investigate President Joe Biden’s central role in his family’s domestic and international business dealings. Yesterday, the House Oversight Committee delivered subpoenas to the President’s son, Hunter Biden, brother, James Biden, and other Biden family associates connected to the record of evidence obtained by this Committee. A plethora of bank records, texts, emails, and a transcribed interview with Biden family associate Devon Archer all show the Bidens and their business partners sold access to the highest levels of our government, including Joe Biden himself, to the detriment of America’s interests,” said Chairman Comer. “Americans across this country have made it clear to President Joe Biden, the Biden family, and their associates that the gig is up. The House Oversight Committee, along with the Committees on Judiciary and Ways and Means, are determined to follow the facts, and deliver the transparency and accountability that the American people demand, deserve, and expect.”

On November 8, Chairman Comer issued subpoenas to President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, brother, James Biden, and Biden family associate, Rob Walker. According to financial records obtained by the House Oversight Committee, the Biden family set up over 20 shell companies – most of which were created when Joe Biden was President – in a concerted effort to hide payments from foreign adversaries. The Biden family, their business associates, and their companies received over $24 million from China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan.

The House Oversight Committee identified two checks labeled as “loan repayments” from James and Sara Biden to Joe Biden that were funded by laundered China money and domestic influence peddling schemes. In 2018, James Biden received $600,000 in loans from, Americore—a financially distressed and failing rural hospital operator. According to Americore bankruptcy court documents, James Biden received these loans “based upon representations that his last name, ‘Biden,’ could ‘open doors’ and that he could obtain a large investment from the Middle East based on his political connections.”

The House Oversight Committee is also investigating the sale of the President’s son’s high-priced artwork. Hunter Biden’s art dealer, George Bergès, has repeatedly failed to respond to the Committee’s requests for transcribed interviews and information related to the high-dollar art transactions on Hunter Biden’s art.

“Today’s subpoenas represent another step in holding President Biden accountable. House Republicans are committed to doing the oversight work that the American people deserve,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

“As we have said from day one, House Republicans will follow the facts wherever they lead,” said Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.). “Every step of this investigation has uncovered a web of business associates linked to Hunter Biden and the Biden family business with Joe Biden as the brand at the center of it all. In recent weeks, the uncovering of so-called ‘loans’ for which Joe Biden was repaid by family members with funds from overseas business activities mirrors similar behavior IRS whistleblowers disclosed to the House Ways and Means Committee. The materials they provided confirm that Eric Schwerin played a significant role in Hunter Biden’s financial dealings and apparently had interactions directly with Joe Biden. The three committees have identified extensive evidence of influence peddling even with only a limited view of the relevant information due to significant resistance from the individuals and government agencies involved. The American people deserve the truth, and House Republicans will continue to fight to get to the bottom of the Biden family’s influence peddling scheme.”
