Comer Opens Committee Organizational Meeting for 119th Congress

WASHINGTON—House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) delivered opening remarks at today’s Committee organizational meeting for the 119th Congress. In his remarks, Chairman Comer emphasized the Committee’s commitment to its core mission to root out waste, fraud, and abuse from the federal government and ensure federal agencies are delivering for the American people. He also welcomed the new Republican members and the incoming Democratic Ranking Member to the Committee, expressing optimism about collaborating on initiatives to safeguard taxpayer dollars.

Below are Chairman Comer’s remarks as prepared for delivery.

I want to welcome everyone to the organizational meeting of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

This Congress, the Committee will continue its important work: safeguarding taxpayer dollars from waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement. Ensuring the federal bureaucracy is transparent and accountable to the American people. And making sure the federal government is working efficiently for the American people.

Before we begin our meeting to adopt the Committee Rules for the 119th Congress, I’d like to welcome all our new and returning Members to the Committee.

I look forward to working with each of you this Congress.

The new members on the Republican side are:

  • Representative Eli Crane of Arizona,
  • Representative Brian Jack of Georgia,
  • Representative John McGuire of Virginia, and
  • Representative Brandon Gill of Texas.

We are glad you are here, and we look forward to working with you to protect American taxpayer dollars.

I’d also like to congratulate Ranking Member Gerry Connolly on his appointment to serve as the Ranking Member this Congress. I look forward to working with you on several issues where we find common ground.

With that, I yield to the Ranking Member to introduce his Members. Read More: Comer’s Washington Times Op-ed: Holding the Federal Bureaucracy Accountable
