USPS Hearing Wrap Up: Facts Expose Democrats’ Fake Crisis

WASHINGTON – Today, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Board of Governors Chairman Robert Duncan testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and debunked the Democrats’ baseless conspiracy theory about the Postal Service. Below are key takeaways and exchanges from the hearing.

Rep. James Comer debunks the myth that Postmaster General reports to the President.

Comer: You report to the Postal Board of Governors, is that correct?

DeJoy: Yes sir.

Comer: And the Postal Board of Governors is a bipartisan board comprised of both Republicans and Democrats, is that correct?

DeJoy: It is, sir.

Comer: And its makeup is that way because of the statute passed by Congress requiring a bipartisan board of governors, right?

DeJoy: Yes sir.

During questioning from Representative Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.). Postmaster General DeJoy debunks myths about slowed down service and overtime.

Foxx: Some claim your changes are deliberative efforts to slow down mail and hurt Postal Service employees. Is that true?

DeJoy: No ma’am.

Foxx: Are you banning employees from charging overtime or are you trying to limit unplanned overtime to ensure the Postal Service’s viability?

DeJoy: At this time no ma’am, and at no time since I’ve been here.

Representative Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) debunks the myth about the Postal Service’s ability to deliver.

Gosar: Will you be able to handle the slight election increases that we will possibly see?

DeJoy: We will be able to handle all election mail for the 2020 election.

Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Ala.) sets the record straight on the Obama-Biden mail delivery record.

Palmer: During the Obama-Biden administration, there was a decline in first class letter delivery of 18-44% and a 38% decline in the performance over the same time in 2014. The U.S. Postal Service in 2012 began closing dozens of mail sorting facilities. From January to June of 2015 there were 494 million pieces of mail that did not arrive on time, a 48% increase in delayed mail delivery, and I am sure that was intended to impact the 2012 election, yet this Committee didn’t see fit to look into that.

Representative Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) and Postmaster General DeJoy debunk the Democrats’ myths about removed mailboxes and a bailout.

Norman: Are you and the Postal Service actively removing mailboxes at the behest of President Trump to undermine the election?

DeJoy: No sir.

Norman: Was the U.S. Postal Service going to be insolvent before the election if you did not receive the $25 billion that Democrats insisted in including in the bill?

DeJoy: No sir.

Norman: Is the U.S. Postal Service equipped to handle voting by mail for the November election?

DeJoy: Yes sir.

During questioning from Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Postmaster General confirms recent ballot counting delays were not the Postal Service’s fault.

Jordan: Was it the Postal Service’s fault that it took New York six weeks to count votes in their Democratic primary?

DeJoy: No.

Jordan: Was it the Postal Service’s fault that New Jersey was still counting ballots four weeks after their primary?

DeJoy: No.

Jordan: Was it the Postal Service’s fault that it took the Democrats a month to figure out who won the Iowa Caucuses?

DeJoy: No.

Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) reveals the Democrats’ hypocrisy when it comes to mail during an election year.

Massie: The Democrats have cooked up this conspiracy and the media is complicit. But ten facilities in Kentucky were shut down in an election year by the Obama-Biden administration.

Representative Kelly Armstrong (R-N.D.) shows how Democrats are using this issue to raise money for their own reelection campaigns.

Armstrong: This is all about driving fear, placing blame, and probably most significantly, raising money. But it’s not about raising support for the Post Office, it’s about raising money for elections.
