Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service Endorses Postal Reform Act

WASHINGTON – The Coalition for the 21st Century Postal Service today endorsed H.R. 2748, the Postal Reform Act of 2013. The legislation, introduced by House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., along with Postal Subcommittee Chairman Blake Farenthold, R-Texas, and Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., will be considered at a Committee business meeting tomorrow.

“We believe that HR 2748, if enacted, would be a major step toward bringing the Postal Service most, if not all, of the way back to financial stability, while incorporating a number of helpful modernizing reforms,” the Coalition writes in a letter sent today to Chairman Issa.

“I am encouraged by the Coalition’s support,” said Chairman Issa. “They represent the private sector interests who have been facing the same pressure as USPS in this era of declining use of paper mail. They know from firsthand experience that by reducing unneeded infrastructure and adapting to America’s changing needs, USPS can restore itself to financial stability.”
