Oversight Committee to Investigate Administration Policies on Domestic Energy Production

WASHINGTON– The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will host senior administration officials next Tuesday at a 9:00 a.m. hearing examining administration policies on domestic oil and gas production. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson will testify alongside Department of the Interior Deputy Secretary David Hayes.

“We’re looking for answers from this administration on some very fundamental questions about the future of America,” said Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the committee. “The United States’ combined energy resources are the largest on earth – eclipsing Saudi Arabia, China, and Canada combined. Are we committed to developing these resources to their fullest extent and creating jobs for American workers? Will this administration work with Congress to clear regulatory impediments to safe, clean domestic energy production and job creation?”

Issa pointed to new applications of proven technologies that may change the future of American energy production: “Just ten years ago, it was assumed that America would soon run out of natural gas and that more drilling could not solve the problem. Thanks to these innovations there is a serious discussion about natural gas being a significant export in the future.”

Issa continued: “For instance, horizontal hydraulic fracturing technology could turn shale oil fields in North Dakota, Colorado, Texas, and California into wells that could produce what the Gulf of Mexico produces today, boosting domestic oil production by 40% Developing these fields could reduce oil imports by 60% by 2020.”
