Chaffetz Statement on Arrest of EPA Employee for Possession of Child Pornography

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) released the following statement after learning of the arrest of the information security officer for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 on four counts of possession of child pornography, a class II felony.

“If true, the level of misconduct within Region 5 is truly staggering. Child pornography is as disgusting and as vile as it gets. Yet, astoundingly, this is not even the first EPA Region 5 employee to face similar charges. The problems at EPA Region 5 persist and worsen with each account. It is deplorable for an agency to have sunk to such toxic levels. Leadership from the very top is needed to restore the integrity of this office.”

Background:

The Committee previously examined mismanagement and/or misconduct at the EPA as recently as last month – in addition to March 2016 (Part II and Part III), February 2016September 2015July 2015, and April 2015.
