Comer Announces Hearing on the 2025 GAO High-Risk List

WASHINGTON—House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) today announced a hearing on “The Government Accountability Office’s 2025 High-Risk List.” The Government Accountability Office (GAO), a nonpartisan agency in the legislative branch, issues a report at the start of each Congress to identify which federal programs are most susceptible to waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement and includes recommendations to executive branch agencies as well as Congress. To date, the Trump Administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has highlighted GAO’s critical work in identifying trillions of dollars lost to waste and fraud. At the hearing, members will evaluate areas in critical need of oversight, highlight vulnerable federal programs, and consider government-wide improvements to assist the Trump Administration’s ongoing efforts to protect all American taxpayers and eliminate Washington waste.

“Despite GAO’s recommendations to protect taxpayers and their comprehensive reports released each year, bloated federal programs continue to squander taxpayer funds and fail to meet basic objectives. Americans are tired of the federal government failing its report card and demand action. GAO’s work provides the Trump Administration, including DOGE, a roadmap to take on the runaway federal bureaucracy. The Oversight Committee is excited to continue working with President Trump and DOGE to deliver on our shared mission of eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. This hearing will examine GAO’s 2025 High-Risk List to shine a light on federal programs that are especially susceptible to waste and abuse, as well as identify solutions to ensure the government is working efficiently and effectively. Americans are demanding action and President Trump, DOGE, and Republicans in Congress are delivering on that promise,” said Chairman Comer.
