Grothman, Sessions Announce Joint Hearing Addressing Financial Accountability in the Department of Defense
WASHINGTON— Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs Chairman Glen Grothman (R-Wis.) and Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) will hold a joint hearing titled “Beyond the Budget: Addressing Financial Accountability in the Department of Defense.” The joint hearing will examine financial management practices at the Department of Defense (DoD) to ensure that DoD utilizes appropriated funds from Congress in an efficient manner.
“For too long the Department of Defense has operated on its own terms and has clearly failed to ensure taxpayer dollars are not lost to waste, fraud, or abuse. The DoD has failed five consecutive audits, most recently unable to account for 61% of its assets, yet keeps receiving over a trillion dollars of taxpayer dollars annually from Congress with far too little oversight and transparency. The Oversight Committee has a responsibility to prevent the waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer funds. It’s time to examine how a lack of accountability within DoD has resulted in failed audits and consider meaningful solutions to make sure DoD has the tools necessary to ensure fiscal responsibility,” said Subcommittee Chairs Grothman and Sessions.
