Mace: Democrats Silent on Attacks Targeting Services to Women and Children in Need

Calls for hearing to examine domestic extremist attacks targeting crisis pregnancy centers and religious institutions across the country

WASHINGTON— Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Subcommittee Ranking Member Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) today called on Subcommittee Chairman Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) to hold an immediate hearing to examine the recent string of domestic extremist attacks targeting crisis pregnancy centers and religious institutions across the country.

“The Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties must immediately hold a hearing to examine a recent string of domestic extremist attacks targeting crisis pregnancy centers and religious institutions across the country. The subcommittee has held numerous hearings examining the threat of domestic violent extremism and white supremacist violence in the United States but has been noticeably silent about recent attacks targeting facilities that provide critical services to women and families in need. We must examine the disturbing trend of rising left-wing violence and conduct oversight over the federal government’s response to this growing threat,” wrote Mace.

Following the leak of a draft opinion in a case currently pending before the Supreme Court, pro-life organizations and religious institutions have come under attack across the country. Multiple crisis pregnancy centers have been targeted by firebombing and arson attacks in several states. A group known as “Jane’s Revenge” has taken credit for many of these attacks and has encouraged others to attack these facilities. Under Democrat leadership, the Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Subcommittee has held six hearings on other examples of domestic extremism, but it has been noticeably silent about recent attacks targeting crisis pregnancy centers.

“The preservation of our democratic society demands that we take action to root out violence no matter where it occurs or what motivates it. We must be united in our efforts to preserve our civil society and condemn all violence. I urge you to schedule a hearing as soon as possible to conduct oversight of the federal government’s ability to prevent these attacks and hold those responsible accountable for their actions,” continued Mace.
