Mace & Fallon Announce Joint Hearing on Malicious Ransomware Attacks
WASHINGTON—Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation Chairwoman Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) and Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Chairman Pat Fallon (R-Texas) will hold a joint hearing titled “Combating Ransomware Attacks.” The hearing will examine damage caused by damaging ransomware attacks and the choices confronted by victims. It will examine the source of these attacks and discuss the appropriate role of the federal government in prevention and response.
“The upsurge in ransomware attacks has left a trail of victims and exacted significant economic damage. Unchecked, these attacks threaten to undermine the reliable operation of public and private entities operating in sectors ranging from education to medical care to financial services. We must hold the bad actors perpetrating these attacks accountable and examine ways to keep potential targets better protected. This joint subcommittee hearing will be a great opportunity to hear directly from ransomware victims about their experience, so we can learn what is happening on the front lines of this battle,” said the Subcommittee Chairs.
