“There is an evident leadership crisis at the Department of Veterans Affairs that is distracting from its core mission of providing timely assistance to our nation’s heroes,” said Chairman Issa.

“In light of these recent press reports suggesting that a settlement may replace the Independent Foreclosure Review process, we respectfully request a staff briefing prior to the conclusion of the reported settlement agreement,” the members wrote.

“The Postal Service has a presence in every community in our nation. Since its establishment, we've taken it for granted that our mail would arrive and that important business and personal correspondence would reach its destination."

“The President, the Senate Majority, and the House Minority have not been able to agree to even the most meager spending cuts,” Issa said in the statement. “Yet the President’s executive order gives all members of Congress a salary hike on top of the $174,000 a year we already earn.”

“The Justice Department has still not met its legal obligations to turn over documents showing why it waited ten months to formally retract false denials of reckless tactics in Operation Fast and Furious and why it failed to appropriately respond to whistleblower allegations."

“The Administration broke the law by withholding this document due in April until the end of the year, and broke the President’s promise to be transparent by releasing it at a time when they believed as few people as possible might see it."

“If Congress was to eliminate the requirement for USPS to pay down its unfunded liability on retiree health care, taxpayers would almost certainly pick up the bill,” House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said.

“In the 112th Congress, the Oversight Committee has exercised a renewed commitment to effective congressional oversight, restoring the Committee to a workload more comparable to times before one-party rule during the first two years of the Obama Administration."

“This is the most humble and minimal proposal I could imagine,” Issa said. “We’re not getting close to a balanced budget with this. We’re simply making a down payment on it.”
