ICYMI: Chairman Comer’s Oversight Committee Racks Up Wins for American Taxpayers

WASHINGTON—The Washington Times detailed the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s accomplishments during the 119th Congress under Chairman James Comer’s (R-Ky.) leadership. Based on the Committee’s report, “Restoring America Through Oversight: 119th Congress Wins from the House Oversight Committee,” the article details how Republicans fought for American taxpayers by exposing fraud in federally funded, state-administered programs in Minnesota and California and leading the effort to pass 11 bills to prevent future fraud.

Additionally, Oversight Committee Republicans exposed Democrats’ actions that jeopardize Americans’ safety and livelihoods, including sanctuary policies that prioritize criminal illegal aliens and the radical Green New Deal scam. Republicans exposed Democrats’ lies, including efforts to shield President Joe Biden’s declining mental acuity from the American people. Republicans also fought for transparency and accountability for survivors of Jeffery Epstein’s crimes.

Below are excerpts from the article:

“Mr. Comer said some of the panel’s most important work under his leadership exposed taxpayer fraud and produced legislation to crack down on it.

“In April, the GAO released a report, requested by Mr. Comer, that found shocking holes in the government’s ability to prevent costly program rip-offs. The report estimated that from 2018 until 2022, the federal government may have lost $233 billion to $521 billion annually to fraud.

“It called on the government to improve fraud detection and identify programs at high risk of fraud, which Mr. Comer addressed in the bipartisan legislation the House passed in June.

“[T]he committee passed 11 bipartisan bills after its investigation into state-level welfare fraud in Minnesota, California and Ohio. For example, a bill authored by Mr. Comer to pause federal payments for programs deemed at high risk of fraud passed in June with the support of all House Republicans and six Democrats.

“The panel also tackled affordability, advancing a bipartisan bill to rein in pharmacy benefit managers, which healthcare analysts say will lower prescription drug costs and increase pricing transparency.”
