Chaffetz, Cummings Issue Joint Statement on Late-Night Car Incident Involving Secret Service Agents

WASHINGTON – House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (UT-03) and Ranking Member Elijah Cummings (MD-07) released the following statement today after news broke that two U.S. Secret Service (USSS) agents were involved in a late-night car accident on March 04, 2015 at the White House:

“The Committee’s ongoing bipartisan investigation has focused from the onset on whether or not specific instances of misconduct are indicative of a broader cultural problem within the agency. Although recent steps have been made to bring new leadership in at the highest levels, this incident begs the question of whether that is enough. The fact that this event involved senior-level agents is not only embarrassing but exhibits a clear lack of judgment in a potentially dangerous situation. The Committee as a whole remains committed to restoring the integrity of this elite agency and improving accountability at all staff levels.”
