Chaffetz Statement on IRS “Hardware Failure”

Published: Feb 4, 2016

WASHINGTON — Today, House Oversight and Government Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz released the following statement on reporters that the IRS suffered a “hardware failure” causing the Agency to stop accepting electronically filed tax returns.

“The IRS doesn’t have its house in order at any level. That is why I’ve strongly advocated for Commissioner Koskinen’s impeachment. The Committee has been long concerned about IT vulnerabilities at the IRS. Under Mr. Koskinen’s poor management, problems fester and the American people suffer.”

In 2015, Chairman Chaffetz called on President Obama to remove Koskinen as IRS Commissioner. He also sent letters to the IRS expressing concerns with their IT systems.
