Fallon to Hold Hearing on Benefits of Work-Based College Alternatives

WASHINGTON—Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Chairman Pat Fallon (R-Texas) today announced a hearing titled “The Power of Apprenticeships: Faster, Better Paths to Prosperous Jobs and Less Waste in Higher Education.” The hearing will examine the value of apprenticeships and career and technical education programs as cost-effective solutions to prepare students for the workforce needs of the present and future.

“With college tuition and fees doubling in the past twenty years, earning a degree is more expensive than ever. When students and families make the big investment into higher education in the U.S., they rightly expect to earn the skills and tools that will allow them to succeed in the workforce. Unfortunately, more and more graduates and employers feel college has failed to equip students with the practical skills they need to be ready for their dream job. I look forward to examining how we can strengthen the role of affordable alternatives, such as apprenticeships and technical education programs, to prepare more students for a meaningful career,” said Subcommittee Chairman Fallon.
