Grothman Announces Hearing on Consequences of Biden’s Catch and Release Policies at U.S. Southern Border

WASHINGTON— Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs Chairman Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.) will hold a hearing titled “The Consequences of Catch and Release at the Border.” The hearing will examine the failure of the Biden Administration to detain most illegal aliens during removal proceedings and how backlogs and adjudication delays have incentivized hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens to file insufficient claims to obtain work authorization and to buy time in the U.S.

“The Biden Administration’s process in determining policy solutions at the southern border seems to be looking at common sense solutions to a problem and proceeding to do the opposite. The White House has failed to remove most of the illegal aliens encountered during this Administration and compounded the problem by allowing them to remain in the United States. As more ineligible aliens claim asylum, the wait, and resulting incentive to abuse the system, continues to grow. This hearing will be a great opportunity to delve into these issues and we look forward to our witnesses shedding light on solutions to curb this unsustainable flow of illegal immigration,” said Subcommittee Chairman Grothman.
