Sessions, McClain to Hold Joint Hearing on Protecting American Taxpayers from Democrats’ Expanded IRS

WASHINGTON—Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas.) and Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today announced a joint subcommittee hearing titled “Oversight of the Internal Revenue Service.” The hearing will examine how the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) plans to use expanded funding allotted by Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act and discuss its policies towards enforcement, customer service, and protection of taxpayer data.

“Republicans’ priority has always been to safeguard American taxpayers from a weaponized IRS, improve customer service and address the years-long backlog, and ensure citizens’ privacy. The Biden Administration and Democrats insisted on supercharging the IRS’s budget to better fund their reckless spending. Republicans will be vigilant in ensuring it does not target the middle-class and hardworking Americans. We will also guard against politicization like we saw in previous Democrat administrations. We are going to ensure transparency as we hear directly from the IRS how exactly it plans to use increased funds and discuss how to provide the service and protection American taxpayers deserve,” Chairs Sessions and McClain said.
