Comer Slams Democrats’ Oil & Gas Report
WASHINGTON – Today, House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.) released the following statement on Democrats’ oil and gas report:
“The Democrats’ report is the grand finale of a partisan show designed to demonize America’s energy producers and force radical Green New Deal policies on Americans that drive up the cost of energy. Instead of rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government, Democrats weaponized the resources of the Oversight Committee to wage a war against America’s oil and gas industry, appease radical environmentalists, and enable the Biden Administration’s radical climate agenda that’s harming the pocketbooks of Americans. Over the course of this investigation, Democrats issued unnecessary subpoenas and even infringed on protected First Amendment rights. At a time when Americans are struggling with high energy prices, Congress must advance policies that unleash American energy production and strengthen an industry that provides good-paying job opportunities. Instead of political stunts, Republicans will return the Oversight Committee to its primary mission of conducting oversight over the Biden Administration and its disastrous energy policies that have ignited an energy crisis.”
In November, Oversight Committee Republicans issued a report outlining how the Biden Administration and Democrats have promoted anti-American energy policies, demonized domestic energy producers, and failed to produce a comprehensive plan to address high energy prices and ongoing marketplace shortages impacting the American people.
In December, Ranking Member Comer launched a broad probe into President Biden’s energy crisis that is harming the pocketbooks of Americans. He called on senior leadership at the U.S. Department of Energy, Department of State, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Securities and Exchange Commission to provide information related to the Biden Administration’s strategy to address high energy prices, abuse of strategic oil reserves, President Biden’s secret deal with Saudi Arabia to lower gas prices before the election, and the implementation of radical Green New Deal policies that drive up costs for American consumers
