Fallon to Hold Hearing with EPA Official on Radical New Emissions Standards at the Expense of American Consumers and Manufacturers

WASHINGTON—Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Chairman Pat Fallon (R-Texas) today announced a hearing titled “Clearing the Air: Examining the Environmental Protection Agency’s Proposed Emissions Standards” to bring transparency to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) process for drafting proposed emissions standards given the industry’s questionable ability to comply with unrealistic timelines. The EPA’s new proposed vehicle emissions standards force a radical increase in the number of EVs on America’s roads and impose sweeping green regulations on traditional cars, trucks, other highway vehicles, and locomotives at the expense of producers, manufacturers, and consumers.

“After the EPA failed to attend the subcommittee’s invitation for its first hearing on this topic in May, we requested again that Mr. Goffman appear for this hearing. The EPA is not, and should not be, immune to congressional oversight. Republicans are deeply concerned about the Biden Administration’s attempt to hijack the auto industry, strangle consumer choice, and determine what products are best for the American people through the EPA’s newly proposed emissions rules. It is critical that we hear directly from the EPA how they developed these standards so that we can determine whether the U.S. has the necessary infrastructure, raw materials, and manufacturing capacity to comply with the EPA’s proposed rules and produce safe and affordable electric vehicles,” said Subcommittee Chairman Fallon.
